Urban Koothu gets BBC Radio 1 airplay!

Great news! Urban Koothu (the Gaana experiment) got played last night on Nihals Show, BBC Radio 1. Huge props to Nihal for continually supporting our ‘experiments’ including BREATHE, as innovative, creative means of breaking the mould. We strive not to follow so this is a huge mark for a track that has limited platforms for promotion due to language barriers. Now to bulid on this and push it as far as possible.

So after years of desi raves and poor attempts at mimicking my punjabi mates’ passionate bhangra moves, i can proudly reveal that myself, Charles Bosco, Jackson Bosco and Arjun have constructed the South Indian/Sri Lankan equivalent in a track entitled Urban Koothu. Now, i always enjoy showing my roots in my music and Urban Koothu does exactly that. We’ve taken traditional Tamil folk music and fused it with a catchy R&B vibe to present more so to our Eastern market place. As the first single off Charles Bosco’s debut album “Magic”, this is somewhat of an experiment so im keen to figure out how well it does. It fits in with my ethos of experimenting with music, which by now you’ve probably figured i enjoy doing! Im spitting on the track, Jackson sings the hook, Arjun on the bridge and Charles on production.

Got a surprise in my inbox today, received the first edit for the Breathe video. Man I was overly hyped and watching it for the first time, I have to say was a huge relief. The shots and footage are awesome, just feel the editing needs to be a bit more dynamic and it’ll be a winner! Sending off feedback and looking forward to the next and potentially final cut!

Productive session today, hit Boscos studios with the directors of ‘The Rajini Effect’ to finalise the title track for the movie. It’s an independent comedy about a Japanese kid who wants to become a movie star just like his hero Rajinikanth (a very famous Tamil actor). The sample is mad but the verses are full of banter which keeps it light hearted- “they call him Rajini, spreading his cash like an STD”. Also finished a second track for the soundtrack called ‘My Way’ which is a deeper, more emotional track. Looking fwd to sharing them with u!

Raine Records Showcase

Had a great night at the Raine Records showcase. Got to see a lot of artists I admire and respect in the industry perform, notably Kee, Raxstar, RKZ and Swami Baracus as well as producer Sunit, Selvi, Priti, Rani and Arjun who stepped it up with some mad dance moves to his new track ‘Vampire’! Gwan mate. Good to see Ashanti Omkar and Ara from Thamarai too. Most importantly I had a chance to finalise ideas for the ‘Vandi’ video with a couple of directors, whom I will disclose in good time, so onwards and upwards from here. Oh and how can I forget, the night wouldn’t have been the same without Charles Bosco on a hype!

Finito! Pretty hectic today as we decided last minute to switch to a studio for today’s shots rather than use the bungalow. Thank God the studio owner answered her phone at 6.30am or today wouldn’t have been possible! That was definitely an experience and I have the most AMAZING team to thank- Paul, Luke, Matt, Kaps, Sammy, Amira, Keets, Prash and Deepa- couldn’t have been possible without any of u! Really looking forward to the edits now which should take a few weeks Behind the scenes pics will be up soon! And I can finally have pasta On that note, I am BEAT- night all!

First day of the shoot over, it’s been mad! Been up since 5am, shooting in a derelict bungalow for the past 13 hours. The dancers and the main actor, Matt, absolutely smashed it today, LITERALLY – mirrors, walls, u name it, he smashed it. So far so good, well looking forward to tmws shoot coz I’m filming my part. If today’s anything to go by, this video is gonna look insane! Time to hit the sack coz it’s gonna be another long one tmw…

Ed Sheeran – No 5. Collaberations Project reaches No.2

Not bad for an independent artist to reach No.2 in the itunes album charts right? Pretty damn good i think. I met Ed at Yoyo’s last week and discovered that not only is he an incredible talent but he’s a real humble guy. ‘Family’ with P Money is a personal favorite of mine. Ready to sign to Atlantic Records, Ed Sheeran is definitely one of my favourite artists at the moment.
